Die Bergische Universität Wuppertal ist eine dynamische, forschungsorientierte

In der Fakultät für Mathematik und Naturwissenschaften, in der Fachgruppe Mathematik

und Informatik, in der Arbeitsgruppe Massive Data Processing, suchen wir

Unterstützung. Es sind 2 Vollzeitstellen zu besetzen.

Ihre Aufgaben

  • Eigenständige Mitarbeit an innovativer Forschung im Bereich Scalable Machine

Learning für daten- und prozessorientierte Anwendungen mit dem Ziel der Promotion

  • Entwicklung neuartiger Methoden für Foundation Models, repräsentationsbasiertes

Lernen sowie skalierbare, nachhaltige und wiederverwendbare Machine-Learning-

Modelle

  • Forschung zu Learning under Label Scarcity, Self-Supervised Learning, Contrastive

Learning und Continual Learning

  • Mitarbeit bei der Planung und wissenschaftlichen Durchführung nationaler und

internationaler Forschungsprojekte

  • Erstellung wissenschaftlicher Publikationen und Präsentation der Forschung auf

internationalen Fachkonferenzen

  • Entwicklung eines individuellen Forschungsprofils innerhalb der Forschungsgruppe
  • Mitwirkung bei der Einwerbung und Durchführung von Drittmittelprojekten
  • Eigenständige Betreuung von Übungen, Praktika und studentischen Arbeiten (max.

im Umfang von 4 LVS)

  • Mitwirkung bei der Durchführung von Prüfungen
  • Mitwirkung bei der Betreuung von Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten im Bereich Scalable

Machine Learning for Data and Processes

Ihr Profil

  • Überdurchschnittlich abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium

(Master oder vergleichbar) in Informatik, Künstlicher Intelligenz, Data Science oder

einem verwandten Fach

  • Fundierte Kenntnisse in Machine Learning, Deep Learning oder Artificial lntelligence
  • Interesse an moderner Forschung in einem oder mehreren der folgenden Bereiche:
  • Foundation Models
  • Representation Learning
  • Self-Supervised, Contrastive Learning & Continual Learning
  • Learning under Label Scarcity
  • Scalable & Sustainable Al
  • Gute Programmierkenntnisse, vorzugsweise in Python (z. B. PyTorch)
  • Fähigkeit zu analytischem, strukturiertem und eigenständigem Arbeiten
  • Ausgeprägtes Interesse an wissenschaftlicher Forschung und einer Promotion
  • Soziale und kommunikative Kompetenz
  • Sehr gute Englischkenntnisse
  • Bereitschaft, innerhalb der ersten zwei Jahre der Beschäftigung Deutschkenntnisse

auf mindestens dem Niveau B2 zu erwerben

Es handelt sich um eine Qualifizierungsstelle im Sinne des Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetzes (WissZeitVG), die zur Förderung eines Promotionsverfahrens dient. Die Stelle

ist befristet für die Dauer des Promotionsverfahrens, jedoch vorerst bis zu 3 Jahren, zu

besetzen. Eine Verlängerung zum Abschluss der Promotion ist innerhalb der

Befristungsgrenzen des WissZeitVG ggf. möglich.

Research Assistant (Doctoral

student)

The University of Wuppertal is a dynamic and research-oriented campus university. In

region as well as in national and international cooperations. About 24,500 people study,

research, or work at 9 schools, research institutions or in university administration.

The school of Mathematics and Natural Science, department of Mathematics and

Computer Science, research group Massive Data Processing, invites applications. Two

full-time positions are available.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Conduct independent research in Scalable Machine Learning for data- and processoriented applications with the goal of obtaining a PhD
  • Develop novel methods for Foundation Models, representation learning, and

scalable, sustainable, and reusable machine learning models

  • Conduct research on Learning under Label Scarcity, Self-Supervised Learning,

Contrastive Learning, and Continual Learning

  • Contribute to the planning and scientific execution of national and international

research projects

  • Publish scientific results and present research at leading international conferences
  • Develop an independent research profile within the research group
  • Contribute to the acquisition and execution of externally funded research projects
  • lndependently supervise practical classes, laboratory sessions, and student projects

(teaching load of up to 4 contact hours per week)

  • Assisi in the organization and administration of examinations
  • Contribute to the supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses in the area of

Scalable Machine Learning for Data and Processes

Professional And Personal Requirements

  • Above-average university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Computer

Science, Artificial lntelligence, Data Science, or a related field

  • Solid background in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Artificial lntelligence
  • lnterest in modern research in one or more of the following areas:
  • Foundation Models
  • Representation Learning
  • Self-Supervised, Contrastive Learning & Continual Learning
  • Learning under Label Scarcity
  • Scalable & Sustainable Al
  • Good programming skills, preferably in Python (e.g. PyTorch)
  • Ability to work analytically, independently, and in a structured manner
  • Strong interest in scientific research and pursuing a PhD
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent command of English
  • Willingness to acquire German language skills at least at the B2 level within the first

two years of the appointment

This is a qualification position in the sense of the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act

(WissZeitVG), which serves to support a doctoral programme. The position is temporary

for the duration of the doctoral process, but initially up to 3 years. An extension for the

completion of the doctorate is possible within the time limits of the WissZeitVG.
