About this position
The Chair of Engineering Geology (Prof. Dr. Jordan Aaron, Geological Institute) is looking for a creative and motivated PhD candidate with a strong interest in fluid mechanics and numerical modelling. The position is expected to start in September 2026 and is fully funded for 4 years.
Job description
- You will develop a new coupled solid/ fluid mechanics-based numerical model to simulate the motion of debris flows
- You will incorporate novel field data currently being collected at numerous locations around the world to validate the new numerical model
- You will combine the numerical model results with field data to further our understanding of the motion of debris flows
Profile
- MSc in Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Geophysics or related fields
- Strong background in numerical modelling
- Interest in natural hazards
- Motivation, creativity, independence, and ability to work in a team
- Excellent English communication skills
