This position should ideally be filled by November 2026 with a contract initially limited to three years. The regular working hours will be 23.88 hours per week, and the salary corresponds to the

E13 TV-L

(60 %) level. The position is affiliated with the group of Prof. Dr. Tom N. Grossmann (https://www.grossmannlab.com). The lab works in the areas of bioorganic chemistry and chemical biology focusing on the design of modified peptides.

The prospective candidate will perform the design, synthesis and characterization of peptidomimetics. These will be used to modify target proteins which will be investigated using diverse biophysical methods.

The prospective PhD student will

• work in an interdisciplinary, inclusive, supportive, and international research environment
• develop a research project with increasing scientific independence
• receive personal supervision, a structured training, and regular feedback
• will travel to and collaborate with international partners
• be guided to supervise undergraduate students

Your profile

You…

• hold or will hold a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related areas,
• must have experience in solid-phase peptide synthesis and the characterization of peptides,
• must have experience in organic synthesis in particular with photo-catalytic methodologies,
• must have performed enzyme-based assays,
• have very good communication skills in written and spoken English,
• have very good communication skills in German to support teaching,
• are creative, and curious in acquiring new techniques
