About this position

Description

The Center for Interacting Urban Networks, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Post-doctoral associate to contribute to interdisciplinary research centered on the Mobility theme. The theme is closely linked to one of NYU Abu Dhabi’s key research impact areas outlined in the Excellence 2030 Strategic Framework: Urban Systems. Specific research areas within the mobility theme include monitoring, modeling, and controlling the operations of multimodal transportation systems, new vehicle technologies, urban mobility, research at the intersection of traditional traffic flow theory and data science, the impact of cybersecurity on transportation systems, and more. 

Resposibilities:

  • To undertake independent high-level scientific research.
  • To publish and present the results of her/his research in high-quality conferences and journals (at least two journal papers are expected based on one year's work)
  • To provide additional support to the research group as needed. 
  • To provide support and assistance in the planning of research projects, preparation and writing of proposals, search for open calls, etc. (a leading role in at least one proposal is expected during a year).
  • To provide support and assistance with the execution of new and/or ongoing proposals/projects to achieve proposed tasks within the established time frames.
  • To provide assistance in the preparation of classes, such as collecting materials, preparing exercises for courses, and assisting with evaluation of assignments.
  • To assist in teaching specific courses/sessions, including conducting labs, teaching lectures, holding office hours, reviewing and grading exercises/exams, etc.
  • To provide mentoring and support to students.

Applicants must have received a PhD in engineering, computer science, urban science, applied mathematics, or a related field, with less than five years post recieving the PhD. Experience in transportation, in particular related to urban science, is required. Additionally, excellent communication skills in English, strong quantitative skills, great computational and data management skills, as well as scientific creativity are essential. Applicants with strong mathematics training are particularly encouraged to apply.

The position will also require the ability to collaborate with other researchers on other center themes, such as Fairness and Uncertainty, and contribute to a comprehensive understanding of urban systems.
