About this position
Description
The Geometry, Topology, and Physics group at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a Post-Doctoral Associate to conduct research in geometric and topological aspects of physics, including in high energy and condensed matter systems. Applicants with a background in algebraic topology, higher geometry, or mathematical physics are encouraged to apply. Terms of employment include competitive salary and benefits.
Research in Professor Hisham Sati’s group focuses on proper formulations of physical theories, with the development of the mathematical constructions that are needed to provide such descriptions, and uncovering new geometric and topological structures arising from physical phenomena in high energy physics and in condensed matter physics.
The successful candidate will be joining a very active group, which includes Senior Research Scientist Urs Schreiber and several Post-Docs and students, having weekly seminars and several workshops and conferences throughout the year.
Responsibilities of the position include theoretical/mathematical research on the projects of the group, active participation in the group activities, and giving talks internally and externally. There might be occasional light teaching support expected, including assisting in one course per year and possibly mentoring of students.
Candidates must hold a PhD degree in Mathematics or Theoretical/Mathematical Physics with Interest in interdisciplinary research, and with less than 5 years post-reciept of PhD. The ideal candidate would have research experience and interest at the interface of geometry/topology/physics, although having more expertise in one than the other two subjects is also fine.
