About this position

Department: School of Business
Vacancy ID: 044743
Closing Date: 22-Nov-2026

Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.

The International Research on Energy Systems Intergration, Education & Environment for Sustainability and Innovation Centre (IRESI), is a research centre housed in the School of Business. IRESI's research focuses on propelling sustainable energy systems into the future by helping individuals, organisations, and institutions in the pursuit of a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable energy landscape.

We are seeking a technically strong and research-driven Post Doctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to the NEXSYS project, funded by Research Ireland. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of energy systems innovation, with a particular focus on energy flexibility modelling, urban energy systems, and energy communities. The successful candidate will play a key role in NEXSYS (Next Generation Energy Systems), an all-island, multidisciplinary research programme coordinated by UCD Energy Institute and bringing together nine academic institutions to develop evidence-based pathways towards a net-zero carbon energy system by 2050. The role will contribute in particular to the programme's Cities & Communities strand, which addresses sustainable urban energy systems, building energy performance, energy flexibility at community and city scales, and equitable decarbonisation. Further information is available at https://www.nexsys-energy.ie/.

In addition to contributing to core NEXSYS research in energy flexibility modelling, urban energy systems and energy communities, the role will directly support the strategic research objectives of IRESI, the School of Business, and Maynooth University in advancing innovation in sustainable urban energy systems and citizen-centred energy transitions.
