About this position
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our team and contribute to an exciting programme of immunological and infectious disease research. The successful candidate will develop research questions within a defined scientific context, undertake independent research and analyse complex qualitative and quantitative data from a range of sources. You will have the opportunity to generate original ideas, build on existing concepts and contribute to the development of new research projects and funding proposals, while working collaboratively with colleagues across the Department and partner institutions.
You will be responsible for managing your own research and laboratory activities, planning and coordinating experimental work to support the successful delivery of defined projects. You will develop, optimise and apply analytical protocols and experimental techniques, using specialist knowledge to test hypotheses and refine research approaches. As a Postdoctoral Research Assistant, you will use scientific laboratory equipment, analysis and interpret experimental data, and collaborate with colleagues to provide advice on research methods and techniques. You will contribute to research publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and reviews, and communicate findings through national conferences and seminars. You will also support collaborative projects, organise and delegate activities where appropriate. Coaching colleagues in specialist methodologies and contribute to the Department and University’s public engagement and widening access activities is also a key part to the role.
It is essential that you hold a relevant PhD/DPhil, or equivalent qualification in viral immunology, cellular immunology or a related subject. Having demonstrable experience of conducting immunological or infectious disease research in a research laboratory is a must. It is essential to have sufficient specialist knowledge to develop, optimise and apply experimental research methodologies. You must also hold the ability to independently plan and organise experimental work and contribute effectively to the delivery of a research project.
Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.
