About this position
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to carry out research into characterising (crosslinked) proteins and lipids as part of a Wellcome Trust-funded collaborative grant, within the group of Associate Professor Shabaz Mohammed in the Department of Pharmacology. You will be expected to provide guidance to less experienced members of the research group, including postdocs, research assistants, technicians, and PhD and project students.
You will manage your academic research and administrative activities, including project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will use existing and new scientific techniques, test hypotheses and analyse scientific data, contribute ideas for new research projects, collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone.
You must hold a relevant PhD/DPhil in Chemistry, Physics or a similar degree (or be close to completion), together with relevant experience. You must be able to demonstrate experience with instrumentation for the manipulation of ions and working with vacuum systems, plus knowledge of ion optics. Practical experience with several mass spectrometer types and with common fragmentation approaches utilised in the field of mass spectrometry is essential, as is knowledge of complementary structural and biophysical methods.
It would be an advantage if you can demonstrate the ability to carry out analytical procedures that are applied for proteome characterisation to a high degree of precision, analysis of quantitative proteomic data with a degree of statistical rigour and proficiency in handling large datasets including bioinformatics and biostatistics.
The post is fixed-term for 2 years, funded by the Wellcome Trust.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Friday 27 November 2026.
