Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Starting salary is from £38,298 to £45,729 per annum (depending on number of years postdoc experience)

The Babraham Institute is a charity which is world renowned for its research in life sciences to enhance lives and improve wellbeing.

The lab investigates the molecular mechanisms that control biological timing in mouse and human stem cells (Azzi & Rayon, Curr Opinions 2024; Nakanoh et al., Dev Cell 2026). The central aim of this exciting project is to investigate developmental rate in perturbed proliferation conditions.

The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will play a central role in our programme of work studying how protein metabolism controls developmental timing. The post holder will employ quantitative dynamic proteomic approaches and will make use of pharmacological and genetic perturbations in embryonic stem cell models.

In addition to conducting the research outlined above, the post holder will help with training the lab’s graduate students and collaborate in other laboratory activities. They will benefit from the Institute’s world-leading expertise in Signalling and Epigenetics, from our excellent science facilities, and from existing external collaborations within the UK and internationally.

The ideal candidate has a PhD in cell biology, biochemistry or related disciplines, and has evidence of generating publication-quality data. It is expected that the post holder has good interpersonal skills and can communicate their work clearly in both formal and informal settings. Prior experience in molecular biology as well as handling of pluripotent stem cells will be beneficial, but on-the-job training will be provided. In addition, expertise in bioinformatics for genomics or proteomic analyses would be valuable.

This is a limited term appointment with funding for this post until 4th September 2028.

Applicants must hold a PhD or have their thesis submitted when commencing the post. Please note that you will be appointed on the starting salary of £35,363 per annum, if you have not yet been awarded your PhD. All newly appointed postdocs will commence on the salary/scale point that reflects the number of years' post-PhD experience they hold on 30th June in the calendar year they commence employment.
