About this position

Location: Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health, level 3, Women’s Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

The Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Oxford Endometriosis CaRe Centre (EndoCaRe) and contribute to an exciting research programme investigating new therapeutic targets for endometriosis. Working within a multidisciplinary team and in collaboration with our industrial partner, Hirundo Biosciences, you will help translate human genetic discoveries into potential new treatments for endometriosis. You will be responsible for developing and optimising a macrophage–endometriosis co-culture system using patient-derived organoids and primary immune cells to investigate the cellular interactions involved in inflammation and disease progression. You will undertake laboratory experiments, including cell culture, flow cytometry and other single-cell techniques, analyse and interpret research data, and contribute to scientific publications and presentations. You will also work closely with colleagues and collaborators, contribute to research proposals and provide guidance to less experienced members of the research group.

You will hold a PhD/DPhil, or be close to completion, in immunology or a related biomedical discipline, with specialist knowledge and practical experience of macrophage biology and in vitro experimental techniques. You will have experience of managing your own research activities and contributing to peer-reviewed publications, together with excellent communication and organisational skills. You will be able to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team, communicate research findings effectively and contribute to the supervision of graduate students. Experience of epithelial tissue culture, human co-culture models, advanced cellular analysis techniques or bioinformatics would be advantageous.

Applications for flexible working arrangements are welcomed and will be considered in line with business needs. Please note that occasional out-of-hours working may be required to accommodate the timing of patient tissue collection.

You will be required to upload a CV and Supporting Statement as part of your online application. Your Supporting Statement should clearly demonstrate, using specific examples, how your skills and experience meet the selection criteria for the post.

The post is offered on a full-time basis and is fixed term for three years.

For informal enquiries about the role, please contact Dr Jennifer Southcombe at jen.southcombe@wrh.ox.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 26th November 2026. Interviews are expected to take place on 17th December 2026.

Some positions — especially in Germany, Austria and Switzerland — are filled by writing directly to the supervisor rather than through an online form. These addresses were taken from the advert text, so check them against the official listing before you write.

A cold email to a supervisor is the highest-leverage thing you can send — and the easiest to get wrong. Ask us to look at yours before you hit send.
