About this position

Junior group leader positions (Collegium Researchers, 4 positions) and Postdoctoral Researcher positions (4 positions) in the fields of Science, Medicine and Technology

The Turku Collegium for Science, Medicine and Technology (TCSMT) is supported by the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Technology and the Faculty of Medicine. The aim of TCSMT is to establish a multidisciplinary, interactive research platform for dynamic scientists in science, medicine and technology. Research at TCSMT includes studies in fields such as astronomy, automation engineering, biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biomedicine, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, cell and molecular biology, chemistry, clinical medicine, computer science, dentistry, ecology and evolutionary biology, environmental science, future technologies, genetics, geology, geography, health technology, industrial engineering and management, information technology, materials science and engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, microbiology, neuroscience, nursing science, physics, public health and epidemiology, and statistics.

The Turku Collegium for Science, Medicine and Technology now invites applications for four (4) ambitious early career researchers to start independent research work as junior group leaders at one of the departments at the University of Turku, including Turku School of Economics, and also for four (4) postdoctoral researcher positions. All the positions are funded for three years. Junior Group Leaders may apply for a two-year extension. Any extension is subject to a separate application and the decision of the Board. Successful applicants may begin their employment on 1.9.2027 at the earliest, 1.12.2027 at the latest

The candidates considered must have outstanding potential and established excellence in research. An optimal junior group leader candidate has received their doctoral degree certificate a minimum of three years and a maximum of nine years before the submission deadline for applications.  Persons appointed for postdoctoral researchers must have completed their doctoral degree by the end of the application period but no more than five years before. For information on eligible career breaks and possible extensions to the eligibility window, please see the call text.

For junior group leader positions, particular attention will be paid to the quality of the candidate’s research proposal and international research experience (significant post-doctoral research conducted abroad is essential). For postdoctoral researcher applicants, candidates’ international research experience is vital and a successful candidate should have a connection to research conducted at the University of Turku. Postdoctoral researcher candidates are expected to be able to join an existing research group, or to work under the supervision of a senior researcher at the University of Turku. For all, attention is also paid to how the research of the applicant relates to the collaborative themes of research at the University of Turku. The multidisciplinary nature of the research is considered an advantage.

The Board of TCSMT will fill the positions offered based on an international call and an external evaluation of the applications. The top candidates will be interviewed.

The salaries are determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel.  The starting annual salary for a collegium researcher is about 63 500 EUR and for a postdoctoral researcher about 47 000  EUR. Progress in the researcher's personal performance can be taken into account when determining the salary during employment. The position has a trial period of six months.
