Grade J: £45,641 - £51,258 per annum depending on experience
The role
We are looking for two post-doctoral Research/Senior Research Associates to join Dr Eunice Lo’s UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship team, which focuses on extreme weather, climate change, and human health.
The Futureproof project aims to develop a new field of weather-health prediction science to enhance the climate resilience of the NHS. The successful candidates will run environmental-epidemiology models and develop weather-health forecasts for short- and long-term futures, focussing on extreme events including heat, cold, and storms. They will also investigate the human health impacts of unprecedented extremes and different climate change and socio-economic scenarios. Additionally, the post-holders will engage with a wide range of external project partners across academia, the Met Office, NHS, Cabinet Office, and national public health agencies.
The post-holders will be supervised by Eunice Lo and join Dr Lo’s wider Climate and Health Research Group (https://www.climatebristol.org/research/climate-and-health-impacts/).
What will you be doing?
The successful candidates will be responsible for analysing weather forecast, climate, and human health/healthcare data, running weather-health models, and generating forecasts and projections. They will take a lead role in collaborating with external project partners, including ensuring that scientific outputs are useful for decision making in partner organisations. The expectation is that they will lead 1-2 papers peer-reviewed paper each per year. The post-holders will disseminate research findings in meetings and conferences, and engage in outreach or media activities, where applicable. The successful candidates will support one another, the Futureproof project manager, as well as other group members in the wider Climate and Health Research Group.
You should apply if
You have a PhD or post-doctoral research experience in meteorology or climate and health, and if you are interested in using your expertise to deliver novel and impactful science. We are looking for quantitative researchers who enjoy working at the intersection of disciplines, particularly with data scientists, epidemiologists, and policymakers from government organisations. We are looking for candidates with a track record in analysing weather, climate, and/or health data, who have strong Python and R programming skills, and who are experienced in or keen on publishing high-quality papers.
