About this position
Location: West Cambridge
A position exists for a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Engineering and Darwin College, to work in the area of Industrial Logistics, holding a 5-year Research Fellowship supported by SF Express.
The post holder will be located at the Institute for Manufacturing in West Cambridge.
The key responsibilities and duties are to carry out research in the field of industrial logistics, work with industrial companies on supply chain logistics issues, lead programme in intelligent logistics, including teaching and supervision, and disseminate research outputs in relevant journal/conference papers.
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are:
- A PhD in Industrial Logistics or related discipline
- Background in either Logistics Operations Management, Engineering Logistics Systems, Development of Logistics Technologies or software
- Ability to work within a team and collaborate with research sponsors and external partners, both in academia and industry;
- The ability to lead and coordinate research activities.
As the successful candidate will also be a Research Fellow of Darwin College, they would be expected to fulfil the associated responsibilities, including (but not limited to) participating in Governing Body meetings, attending regular seminars, joining one of the College committees or potentially becoming a Graduate Tutor. Among numerous benefits Darwin Research Fellows are entitled under the College's Ordinances to dine free of charge up to seven meals each week and may claim for selected expenses related to their research. It may be possible to offer rented single-room accommodation for up to two years, subject to availability, for which a charge will be made.
The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in an area relating to logistics engineering and to have demonstrated excellence in this work through publications and innovative development. Appointment at Senior Research Associate level is dependent on significant experience as a postdoctoral research associate or equivalent, with proven impact from authored publications. An understanding in the industrial or service needs in this area will be important and practical experience would be beneficial.
Senior Research Associate: £43,310 - £56,535
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 5 years in the first instance.
