With 27 teaching subjects, one specialization and over 11,000 student teachers, the University of Vienna is the largest teacher training institution in Austria. At the Centre for Teacher Education (ZLB), we are working to bundle and further develop the various initiatives to improve the quality of teacher education. Together with the faculties and centres involved in teacher education and the universities of teacher education within the North-East Network, future teachers are prepared for the changing needs of a modern school and are enabled to contribute to shaping the learning and living environment of schools on the basis of scientific expertise. 

Your personal sphere of play:

Your future position is at the Department of Teacher Education in the working group Didactics of Civic and Citizenship Education under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dirk Lange. This is characterized by excellent research in civic and citizenship education as well as in applied research in emancipatory and subject-oriented civic and citizenship education.
The position is limited to three years.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You build up an independent research profile in the field of Didactics of Civic and Citizenship Education.
  • You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of Didactics of Civic and Citizenship Education.
  • You publish internationally and give lectures.
  • You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
  • You prepare a publication-ready habilitation.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You supervise your students in writing master's and bachelor's theses.
  • You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in the field of Didactics of Civic and Citizenship Education or comparable qualification
  • Outstanding dissertation
  • Subject-specific competences in connection to current topics of Civic and Citizenship Education (e.g. inclusive citizenship, migration, democracy education)
  • Methodological competences in qualitative and/or quantitative research
  • Didactic competences in the field of concepts and principles of Civic and Citizenship Education, experience in e-learning
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media
  • Experience in research management and in leading project staff
  • IT skills
  • Excellent knowledge of German and English (C1)
  • Team player and high social/communicative skills
