About this position
- Ismaninger Straße (TUM Klinikum Rechts der Isar)
- nächstmöglich
- Part-time
- befristet (36 Monate)
As part of a three-year PhD project, the successful candidate will investigate the protective and antitumoral effects of cannabidiol (CBD) in combination with radiotherapy in glioblastoma. The project focuses on how CBD affects tumor radiosensitivity, the tumor microenvironment, and, in particular the function and integrity of healthy brain tissue.
Your Tasks:
- You will work with established glioblastoma mouse models and clinically relevant irradiation protocols
- A particular focus will be the functional characterization of the brain using electrophysiological approaches, including LTP recordings, extracellular field potential recordings and whole-cell patch-clamp, as well as live-cell and high-resolution imaging, including calcium imaging and optoacoustic imaging. Complementary morphological, molecular and immunological analyses will be performed to link functional alterations to their structural and molecular mechanisms.
- A central objective is the quantitative integration of electrophysiological and imaging data to elucidate the mechanisms underlying radiation-induced neuronal damage and potential CBD-mediated neuroprotection.
Your Profile:
- We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a Master’s degree in neuroscience, biology, biophysics, physiology, pharmacology or a related discipline, with a strong interest in interdisciplinary experimental research.
- practical experience in electrophysiology, especially patch-clamp or extracellular recordings
- experience with live-cell, calcium or confocal imaging and quantitative image analysis
- an interest in neuronal plasticity and functional alterations of the brain
- willingness to learn and apply new techniques, including optoacoustic imaging and experimental animal procedures.
- Experience in glioblastoma, cancer or radiation research is advantageous but not essential. Most importantly, we are looking for experimental skills, scientific curiosity, independence and the ability to integrate electrophysiological, imaging and molecular findings into a coherent mechanistic framework
We Offer:
- A three-year PhD project (60% part-time)
- EGYM well pass, corporate benefits and discounts (e.g. Käfer), cafeteria, sports and cultural offers, company bike
- Working in the heart of Munich at Max-Weber-Platz with very good accessibility by public transport such as the subway, S-Bahn or tram
- Company pension plan through the Federal and State Pension Institute (VBL)
- Self-realization through a varied and technically demanding job with interdisciplinary cooperation between various departments of the TUM Klinikum
We look forward to receive your application!
