About this position

Location: Warneford Hospital, Oxford OX3 7JX

The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

The Department of Psychiatry is based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford – a friendly, welcoming place of work with an international reputation for excellence. The Department has a substantial research programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry. The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox.

This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to lead the computational work package of the Franco-British project “Immuno-metabolic profile of anhedonia in severe mental illness”, within the Immuno-metabolism and severe mental illness research group. Combining new UK and French cohort data with existing large-scale datasets, the project aims to identify and validate immune-metabolic signatures of anhedonia and other transdiagnostic symptoms across major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and psychosis.

About the Role

This part-time (0.6 FTE) post is fixed-term for 12 months and is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital, reporting to Dr Fabiana Corsi-Zuelli.

You will lead the integration of genomic and phenotypic data from large external cohorts with the project's multi-omics datasets (proteomic, metabolomic and cellular immunophenotyping) to support biomarker discovery and validation, developing reproducible analysis pipelines. You will manage your own research, work closely with the UK and French partner teams, and contribute to project reporting, publications and conference presentations.

About You

You will have, or be close to completing, a relevant PhD/DPhil in neuroscience, bioinformatics, statistical genetics, computational biology, epidemiology, or a related quantitative discipline, together with relevant research experience. You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in analysing and integrating high-dimensional multi-omics data with clinical or phenotypic data, knowledge of statistical genetic approaches using large-scale resources, strong programming and reproducible research skills, and excellent communication skills for multi-site international collaboration. Experience with UK Biobank, ALSPAC, or other population databases is desirable.

Diversity

Committed to equality and valuing diversity.

Our active Psychiatry People and Culture teams and initiatives including our values and behaviours framework, work to make the Department of Psychiatry as supportive, welcoming and inclusive as possible.

Application Process

You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application. Please see the University pages on the application process at https://www.jobs.ox.ac.uk/application-process
