The Department at the University of Vienna is the largest academic center covering all fields relating to the German language and German-language literatures. The core areas are Modern German Literature, Medieval German Language and Literature, Germanic Linguistic, German as a Foreign and Second Language, and German Teaching Methodology. In addition, the areas of Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, Media Theory, Literary Theory, and Literature for Children and Young Adults are well established. More than 5000 students are enrolled.

Your personal sphere of play:

As a university assistant post doc, you will have the opportunity to work at one of the largest departments of German Philology worldwide consisting of an inspiring group of people dedicated to a manifold range of research and academic teaching.

The advertised professorship is affiliated with the field of Modern German Literature, with a particular focus on Literary and Media Theory. Accordingly, in addition to an outstanding doctoral degree in literary studies, candidates are expected to have a Habilitation project situated within the scope of this professorial field.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

• You build up an independent research profile in the field of Modern German Literature, with a particular focus on Literary and Media Theory.
• You are involved in research projects and scientific studies.
• You publish internationally and give lectures.
• You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
• You prepare and complete a publication-ready habilitation.
• You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
• You supervise your students.
• You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
• You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality:

• Completed doctoral/PhD studies in subject Modern German Literature
• Subject-specific expertise in Modern German Literature or Comparative Literature/European Literatures
• Methodological expertise, including literary theory, media theory, and the history of knowledge
• Publications in renowned, field-relevant outlets (peer-reviewed, where appropriate according to disciplinary standards)
• Experience in research management 
• Didactic skills / experience in e-learning
• IT skills
• Excellent knowledge of English (C1)
• Team player and high social/communicative skills
• Knowledge of:
• Familiarity with university procedures and structures
• International experience
• Experience in student supervision and advising
