Your personal scope:

As a University Assistant (Postdoc) you will be part of the Computational Communication Science Lab (CCL), an interdisciplinary research group under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Annie Waldherr and Univ.-Prof. Hajo Boomgaarden, PhD at the Department of Communication, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The aim of the CCL is to improve our understanding of the causes, processes and effects of mediated communication using computational methods. We strive to advance core fields of communication science such as public sphere and public opinion research, journalism and political communication using advanced computational models and methods for collecting, processing, analyzing and visualizing large-scale, complex data. For the vacant position, we particularly search for a colleague experienced in computational text and/or image analysis and processing platform data.

Your future tasks:

  • Contributing to research, teaching, and administrative tasks at the Department of Communication
  • Participating in research projects at the intersection of political communication and computational communication science.
  • Actively contributing to the activities of the Computational Communication Science Lab (CCL)
  • Publishing and presenting at international conferences
  • Submitting project proposals and securing external funding, as well as providing support in the application process
  • Independently teaching courses in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement
  • Supervising students
  • Participating in evaluation processes and quality assurance

Your Profile:

  • PhD in communication studies, political science, or a related social science
  • Expertise in computational communication science, in particular text and/or image analysis and platform data
  • Interest in topics related to political communication
  • Knowledge of Python and/or R
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills
  • Teaching experience
  • Excellent English skills
