The Organic Synthesis Group of Prof. Maulide in the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna is currently seeking a PhD student with research experience in organic chemistry and natural product synthesis for 4 years temporary employment relationship.
Our Team currently consists of 10 post docs, 13 prae docs, 2 senior scientists and administrative colleagues.
The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declation.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- Studies on the stereoselective preparation of organic compounds. Special emphasis on the development of new synthetic reactions and reaction sequences, with an emphasis on amination reactions, electrophilic amide activation, cyclization reactions, peptide synthesis and oxidative rearrangements.
- We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
- You work on your dissertation and its completion.
- You teach within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration and have experience in academic writing.
- IT user skills: e.g. Microsoft Office, ChemOffice.
- You communicate in English (written and spoken).
- Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field of Chemistry with profound knowledge and practical experience in the field of Organic Synthesis.
- Ability to work independently in the field of organic synthesis, including working under inert atmosphere.
- Experience with the chemistry of organic amines, as well as their synthesis through, for example, hydroamination and hydroaminomethylation and -alkylation (metal-catalyzed and metal-free), borrowing hydrogen approaches, reductive amination, Mannich and Mitsunobu reactions and nucleophilic additions using Ellman’s auxiliary.
- Experience with stereoselective synthesis of aminated amides through sigmatropic rearrangements and electrophilic amide activation.
- Experience with Pictet-Spengler reactions and related cyclizations.
- Experience with the chemistry of Indoles and their derivatives is desirable.
- Experience with automated and flow synthesis and the chemistry of radiopharmaceuticals is desirable.
- Experience with oxidative rearrangements is desirable.
- Experience with the chemistry of selenoesters is desirable.
- Experience with peptide semisynthesis is desirable.
- Experience with total synthesis of heterocyclic compounds is desirable.
- Extensive experience with spectroscopic methods (NMR, HRMS, IR, UV/vis).
