Your personal sphere of influence:
As a University Assistant Praedoc at the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, you will be involved in research and teaching activities in the team of Prof. Dr. Judith Frömmer. Our research focuses on French and Italian literature and media studies, with a historical focus on the early modern period and early modernity, and a systematic orientation towards political theory and semantics, historical narrative research, and inter- and transmedial phenomena. Current research projects focus on the interplay between aesthetic, political and military concepts, the translation of early modern love poetry, the digital reconstruction of aesthetic spaces of perception and the poetics of supporting and minor characters in comedy.
The team currently consists of a professor, a postdoctoral assistant, a predoctoral assistant, an organizational assistant, and other staff working on the externally funded project "Petrarch in Global Translation: A Genealogy of Western Love".
The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- You are involved in research projects and scientific studies of the team.
- We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
- You work on your dissertation and its completion.
- You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
- You participate in the organization of conferences and meetings.
This is part of your personality:
- Completed master's/diploma/teaching degree in Romance Philology or Comparative literature with a focus on Italian and French literatures.
- Dissertation project within the thematic and methodological focus areas of the research group.
- Excellent knowledge of either Italian or French is essential, combined with a solid foundation in the other language. Good knowledge of Latin and English is desirable.
- Other requirements are
- Strong academic research, writing and presentation skills;
- An overview of research methods and debates relevant to the field;
- We are looking for a team player with strong communication skills, an interest in project work, and the ability to responsibly carry out smaller academic projects—such as presentations, workshops, field trips, and, of course, their own dissertation—under supervision.
