The Vienna BioCenter Scientific Training Unit invites applications for the position of Doctoral School Program Manager for the Vienna BioCenter PhD Program, a molecular biology doctoral school of the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna. This position is embedded in a team that manages training programs for undergraduates, doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers and team leaders. To maintain its exceptional quality and competitiveness, the Vienna BioCenter PhD program is seeking a dedicated Program Manager who will play an important role in the operation of the program and contribute to the development and implementation of a range of doctoral education-related projects.

Your personal sphere of influence:

The Doctoral School Program Manager will be responsible for coordinating and implementing a diverse array of recruiting, education, and outreach projects within one of the leading life science programs in Europe.

Your future tasks:

  • Developing and implementing an innovative educational curriculum including career development guidance for young researchers, in cooperation with the Head of scientific training, the director of the school, the student representatives, and the faculty on the VBC campus.
  • Managing the recruitment process and onboarding of doctoral candidates.
  • Monitoring of PhD training quality.
  • Mentoring and advising PhD students throughout their PhD journey
  • Initiating and supporting doctoral candidates’ activities such as events, retreats, and symposia.
  • Supporting efforts to increase the visibility of the program through advertisement and outreach locally and internationally.
  • Budget responsibility and finance management of doctoral school activities

This is part of your personality:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with training team members, faculty, and students.
  • Capable of taking initiative and responsibility.
  • Empathic spirit.
  • Innovative, flexible and able to contribute to a team environment.
  • Superb organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • PhD degree in Life Sciences, preferentially molecular biology or a related field.
  • Experience in program coordination and/or project management in a dynamic and multicultural environment, preferentially in Life Sciences.
  • Expertise in competitive recruitment cycles
  • Proficiency in English.
