The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust (the Trust) has set up the Jockey Club STEM Early Career Research Fellowship for Translation and Application (formerly known as Jockey Club Global STEM Post-doctoral Fellowship for Translational Research and Application) and is now inviting applications from early career researchers from all over the world. The Fellowship will provide comprehensive support and unique opportunity to help STEM post-doctoral researchers develop their research and innovation career, expand their professional network and create social impact. The Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong is a Partner Organisation of this Fellowship.
The Fellowship
The Trust provides support for 3 years of full-time appointment for each awardee as Postdoctoral Fellow at the supporting university.
Terms and Benefits
a) a stipend of up to HK$579,200 per annum for three years, with additional 15% gratuity to be offered upon completion of the Fellowship;
b) a top-up amount of HK$10,000 per month will be provided to the appointee in addition to the basic salary;
c) academic development and exchange allowance: up to HK$32,000 per annum for three years;
d) research project seed funding: up to HK$389,000;
e) proof-of-concept ("PoC") fund: up to HK$500,000 (subject to the condition as set out in para.3 of the application guideline);
f) capacity building programmes to be offered by the Trust and its partner to enhance its translational capability, commercialisation readiness and exposure to industry and innovation ecosystems;
g) fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointees.
Eligibility
Applicants should have obtained/ been conferred the first PhD degree or an equivalent qualification in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines on or after 1 January 2023; or will complete the required qualification on or before 31 December 2026. (If the Applicant’s conferment date is after 31 December 2026, he/she must provide supporting documents required).
Applicants must be legally permitted to work in Hong Kong.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Candidates applying for this Fellowship will not be considered by RGC for the RGC Junior Research Fellow Scheme in the same year. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend the Commercialisation Workshop and Presentation Feedback Session arranged by the Trust.
