Research Assistant (Part Time, Fixed Term)

Fixed-term: The post is available at 54% full-time equivalent (20 hours/week) for 3 years in the first instance starting 01 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter and subject to a 6-month probationary period.

We are looking for a Research Assistant in Pathology with experience in the use of spatial biology approaches for the localisation and quantitation of immune cell populations in formalin fixed tissue biopsies, as well as experience in the use of these approaches for scientific research. An interest in disease pathology, image analysis, and the immunology of disease control is required, especially relating to Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Human Papillomavirus Infection. Some experience in the use of tissue culture and molecular cloning approaches would be beneficial. The candidate will be encouraged to develop independence through discussion with other members of the research group, and to pick up additional skills in the analysis of histology sections. The post would be particularly suitable for an enthusiastic individual who wishes to embark on a scientific research career. 

This position also offers the successful candidate the potential to study for a PhD alongside their employment (subject to the University's Admissions policy). 

The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, coupled with excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills is required. Other duties/responsibilities include contributing to research and publications and writing up own research.
