Master's in Germany 101
What it actually takes to apply for the Winter 2027 intake — the paperwork chain, the real deadline, and what “free” does and does not mean anymore.
This webinar ran live on 4 October 2026 and was not recorded. Everything it covered is written out below.
The eight things that decide a German application
Work backwards from the visa appointment
Almost everyone plans forwards from the application deadline printed on a university website. But that deadline is not what decides whether you start in the winter semester. The chain underneath it is — and each step gates the next one.
Weeks in a normal period, and considerably longer in the season when everyone applies at once.
Needs that certificate already in your hand, not in progress.
Arrives when it arrives. This is the step you have least control over.
Set up and funded before you can book anything at the consulate.
The real bottleneck, and the date the whole plan should be built backwards from.
Count backwards from step five and you get a much more honest answer about whether you are on time. For most people the date they actually need to start is months earlier than the deadline on the page.
Someone who did this recently enough to remember it
Anjali applied, waited, got in and moved — recently enough to remember every form, every delay, and every moment of not knowing whether she had done something wrong. She walked through her own application the way it actually happened, including the parts she would do differently, and then answered questions live alongside an ESC mentor.

We also mentor people through the whole thing
Our webinars are free and always will be. If you would rather not do this alone, the Masters Launchpad pairs you with a mentor who has made this journey, and stays with you until you have an offer.
