Our Profile:

A 30-hour Praedoc position is available at the Department of Practical Theology (Section: Pastoral Theology and Kerygmatics) at the Faculty of Catholic Theology, from 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2030. Research and teaching at the Department draw on interdisciplinary research to address current challenges in society, politics and the Church, academia, education and religion. In cooperation with the humanities, social sciences and education, the practice in these fields is researched with the aim of developing perspectives for action.

Your Responsibilites:

The duties of the new assistant consist of active participation in research, teaching and organization in the section and department (as defined by the collective agreement). We expect a dissertation in the field of pastoral theology as part of the Department’s research focus on ‘Interfaith Encounter, Dialogue and Learning in a Secular Context’. A doctoral thesis agreement has to be signed within 12-18 months. An outline of ideas for a possible dissertation is to be attached to the application.

Your Profile:

A practical-theological focus in Catholic-theological studies, or a degree in cultural or social sciences with a focus on religion, or a degree in the study of religion, in each case with a willingness to focus on a practical-theological approach. An interest in interfaith dialogue is a prerequisite. Experience of, and/or an interest in, interdisciplinary and empirical research is desirable.
Independent work and willingness to work in a team are required. A good command of German is essential.

What we offer:

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.

The basic salary of EUR 3,776.10 (on a full-time basis) increases if we can credit professional experience. The gross salary for a 30-hour position is EUR 2,832 gross.
