Unit: Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Your Responsibilities
- Write a dissertation at the University of Graz in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Participate in research projects investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases using human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived 2D and 3D cardiovascular models, with a focus on gene regulation
- Plan, perform, and evaluate scientific experiments, including optimization and troubleshooting of protocols
- Perform experiments, data analysis, and documentation including differentiation of stem cells into cardiac cells (e.g. cardiomyocytes, endothelial cells), generation 3D functional models and organoids, gene expression and epigenetic analyses (in bulk and in single cells), immunostaining with microscopy and image analysis
- Present and discuss findings at regular internal and external meetings and conferences
- Publish research findings in scientific journals
- Teach courses and participate in teaching and examination tasks at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology
- Supervise BSc and MSc students
- Participate in organizational and administrative tasks as well as in evaluation measures
Your Profile
- Completed diploma or master’s degree in the area of life sciences or natural sciences
- Theoretical knowledge in the area of cardiovascular diseases, stem cell/hiPSC differentiation, cell culture models, and/or gene regulation
- Practical experience with mammalian cell culture, particularly sterile stem cell/hiPSC culture, and 2D/3D cell culture models
- Practical experience with RNA-seq or epigenetic analyses i.e., ATAC-seq, CUT&Tag/RUN (desired)
- Practical experience with immunostaining, microscopy, and image analysis
- Practical experience with MS office and statistical programs (e.g. Prism)
- Practical experience with bioinformatics analysis (e.g. R) (desired)
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Strong scientific curiosity and interest in working on current research questions
- High level of commitment, personal initiative, and self-motivation for scientific work
- High degree of personal responsibility and ability to cooperate
- High degree of ability to communicate and work in international and interdisciplinary teams

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 52.865,40 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.
